TEEN
CHALLENGE IS BORN
It was 1958 when David Wilkerson, author of The Cross
and The Switchblade, became burdened with the desire
to reach out and help youth, adults and families suffering
from life-controlling problems, primarily in the area
of drug and alcohol abuse.
To fulfill his vision, Mr. Wilkerson went to the heart
of the gang-controlled city slums in New York City
and began to share God's love with those in need.
This was the birth of Teen Challenge.
FULFILLING
THE VISION
Teen Challenge of Florida, Inc. was formed in 1984.
Now there are nine centers helping David Wilkerson
fulfill the vision of 1958. It is the purpose of Teen
Challenge of Florida, Inc. to reach those with life-controlling
problems, and to initiate the disciplining process
to the point where the student can function as a Christian
in society by applying Biblical principles to every
area of life.
A
PROGRAM THAT WORKS
Teen Challenge of Florida, Inc. endeavors to help
people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced,
socially adjusted, physically well and spiritually
alive by offering a one-year residential training
program. The training programs provide education,
pastoral counseling, Bible study and vocational/work
training. Teen Challenge is the most successful program
of its kind in the world with a documented 86% success
rate for those students who complete the one-year
residential program.
All adult facilities encourage voluntary entrance
and monthly support fees to assist with program cost.
These fees represent less than 2% of total revenues.
Our Juvenile programs do require monthly fees, due
to the additional education, counseling and program
costs.
